1st Baltic Cup wins Russia and Latvia |

24.01.2006In the weekend finished 1st Baltic Cup, in which participated strongest teams from five countries. Gold in men's competition goes to Russia-2 team and in woman's contest Latvia-2 got first place. Latvian curling association and Estonian curling association organized 1st Baltic Cup in two rounds, in which participated strongest teams from Baltic Sea eastern coast countries Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Russia. First round was played in Jelgava, Latvia September 24 26, 2005 and second in Tallinn, Estonia January 20 22, 2006.
In the first round in men competition triumphed Latvia-2 team, following Estonia-1 and Russia-2, but in women competition first place got Russia-1 team, second and third was Latvia-2 and Latvia-3.
In the second round overall leaders in men competition Latvia-2 lost already in semis, so the new overall leader was decided in final game between Russia-2 and Estonia-1. After the 7th end the result was 7:7, but in the final end Estonian skips draw was too strong and Russians won the game. In overall ranking Russia-2 and Latvia-2 got equal points, but better result in second round gave Russia-2 first place, second were Latvia-2 and third Estonia-1.
In women competition fully dominated Latvian teams they got all medal places in this round. First round winners Russia-1 got just the 7th place. Overall gold got the Latvia-2 team, following Latvia-3 and Russia-1.
Every round participated 12 men teams and 8 women teams. In men's competition 1st place got 20 points, 2nd 16, 3rd 13, 4th 10, 5th 8, 6th 7, 7th 6, 8th 5, 9th 4, 10th 3, 11th 2 and 12th 1. In women competition 1st place got 16 points, 2nd 13, 3rd 9, 4th 6, 5th 4, 6th 3, 7th 2, 8th 1.
In every round could participate two strongest teams in national championship and invited teams by the round organizers. Russia was represented by St.Petersburg strongest teams.
